Keep your horses' condition with quality winter horse rugs

Synthetic winter horse covers on Sale

Synthetic horse covers offer fantastic waterproofing and warmth. With considerable time and effort spent on research, development and field testing of the latest fabrics and fittings, synthetic rugs are hard wearing and warm.

Zilco horse rugs are well known for providing great in fit and function, as well as looking fantastic on your horse.

WeatherBeeta horse rugs  undergo thorough testing to ensure they meet tough quality standards for strength, durability and waterproofing. For long lasting durability WeatherBeeta Rugs begin at a tough 1200 Denier ripstop outer fabric and offer Triple Weave fabrics right up to the ultimate 1680 Denier Ballistic Nylon. All WeatherBeeta turnout rugs are waterproof and breathable, featuring taped seams for extra dryness.

Horses carrying less weight can especially benefit from the warmth and lighter weight of a synthetic winter horse blanket, as they won’t be weighed down by a damp canvas cover, but will still stay cosy and keep condition on. Synthetic horse rugs are easier for children to lift, so they are also a great choice for winter pony rugs.

Waterproof winter horse blankets

With a choice of unlined turnout rugs, thin lined, or thermal lined winter horse blankets, we’ve got the right winter covers for your horse. Our winter horse rugs are waterproof rated for dry warm horses.

How warm should a horse cover be?

Do be careful when selecting the weight of a horse’s cover if it will be left on your horse in a range of temperatures. Ask us if you are unsure.

Around the north island a 200 gram horse cover is normally warm enough even in winter.

For areas in the South Island where snow falls, 300 gsm is ideal for winter conditions and colder climates to keep your horse warm in the field. In shoulder seasons you might choose a 200 gsm horse cover to keep your horse healthy and comfortable.

A lightweight turnout rug with no fill is often all horses need in summer – when you really just want to keep them clean, and dry from passing rain showers.

If you are unsure, slide your hand under the horse’s cover – if it isn’t warm, consider a heavier weight rug.
